Looney Bean Coffee Olas Altas is a café and breakfast spot perched near the beach in Mazatlán’s Centro district, offering a relaxed yet vibrant setting for both locals and visitors. With its location just steps from the shoreline, the café takes full advantage of the ocean views, making it a comfortable retreat for anyone looking to combine a casual meal with a refreshing sea breeze.

The vibe here is easygoing—a mix of tourists taking a break from the sun and locals settling in for a midday coffee or breakfast. The indoor seating is clean and air-conditioned, which is a welcome pause from the coastal heat, while some seating options allow guests to gaze out toward the water and the lively promenade. This balance makes Looney Bean a good choice if you want a reliable spot to relax, recharge, and watch the world go by.

The menu leans heavily on breakfast and lunch fare, featuring familiar Mexican classics alongside more international café drinks. Signature coffee options like the Flat White, Looney Latte, and the unique Dirty Chair with Coconut Milk highlight their focus on quality, in-house roasted beans that get noted by regulars. Fresh juices also stand out as a highlight, frequently described as vibrant and freshly pressed.

Breakfast stretches late here, typically until mid-afternoon, appealing to those who favor a leisurely start or a substantial brunch. Dishes such as Machaca a la Mexicana, Chilaquiles Burrito with Salsa Verde, and Waffle Sandwiches reflect a balanced menu with local flavors without leaning too heavily into heavy or overly elaborate plates. The pastries and sweets, including carrot cake slices and various waffles topped with fruit, offer lighter options or something sweet alongside your coffee.

It’s worth noting that while food is generally well regarded for its freshness and portion size, some items might strike more discerning palates as solid but not exceptional—making this more of an everyday comfort place than a culinary destination. The service tends to be friendly, and the staff’s English skills can vary, which is typical in this tourist-centric area.

Best times to visit are outside of the busy Sunday mornings, when the café can get crowded and lively. Weekday mornings or afternoons provide a quieter atmosphere to linger over coffee or a casual lunch. Families, tourists looking for an accessible beachside café, and locals who appreciate a consistent coffee fix with good views are all common sights here.

Overall, Looney Bean Coffee Olas Altas fits into the Mazatlán beach scene as a comfortable, straightforward spot to sit with a well-made coffee, grab a nourishing breakfast, and enjoy the ocean ambiance without too much fuss.

Great service! Beautiful setting! Wonderful view! Machaca was good. Frijoles rather bland. Good meal but not scrumptious.

The place was nice and clean, great beach view, and good service. Also great to note they have good AC and clean bathrooms. I feel like it is a bit priced higher for tourists, but don't get me wrong. 199 Pesos for what I ordered is very affordable and it is a more tourist area that is almost beach front. And just the AC break can be worth it sometimes. First cashier I had knew some English (and I think it is fun trying to communicate when both of you know only a little of the other's language also a great learning opportunity) but the second lady when I ordered a smoothie must have been a manager and her English was fluent.

Looney Bean has removed decaf coffee from the drink menu, blaming high prices and low margins for the change. So after 10 years of loyalty we will now be having our coffee breaks down the street at Rico's. Bye bye LB! Follow up - Thank you for the prompt reply. We are relived and happy to receive your update on the decaf issue. Please hurry to resolve this problem quickly (there are plenty of quality coffee roasters in Mazatlan that would be happy to help).

The juices are to die for, so fresh and delicious. Food was fantastic and you can't beat the view. We took a pound of their excellent coffee home too. My new go to for coffee!

I love coming here to work. Great wifi, good coffee, and very friendly and attentive staff. I stayed there for hours to work so I tried a few menu items. The server recommended the strawberry mango smoothie, which I enjoyed. I read a lot of reviews about the chilaquiles burrito, so I tried it with chicken and verde sauce. The chips and the tortilla felt like a lot of carbs and the chips were soggy in the burrito so next time I will stick with just the normal chilaquiles. The green sauce was amazing. Tangy and flavorful! My favorite thing that I ordered that day was the affogado (espresso shot poured over a scoop of vanilla ice cream). The coffee tasted really good, dark but not too bitter. The ice cream was a perfect pairing. Yummy! I came back today in the afternoon to work, but all the tables with outlets nearby were taken. If you are planning to work there, you should go early to make sure you have a spot with access to an outlet. The view is great as well. Perfect for taking in the sunset and people watching.

The food was fresh, tasty, and generous. The coffee was not hot enough, and service was just so-so., but the view is nice.

Fabulous food, outstanding service, excellent wifi. I took my grand kids, and their parents out for breakfast. We had scrumptious omlettes, excellent coffee, and awesome muffins. Lydia is not yet 2 years old, but I think she'll be a lifetime customer. She gets her own chair and LOVES the muffins and her fruit plate. The freshest sweetest fruit...strawberries, pears, pineapple, and apples. This place is a gem.
